Do prescription meds need to be in original bottles when flying? ›

3) Medication generally doesn't need to be presented or declared, but it's helpful to know exactly what you have in case they ask. The TSA does not require you to have your medication in its original prescription bottle, so traveling with a pill case does not violate any rules.

Tell the security agent that you have medically necessary medications. Otherwise, you may be asked to throw out items that are over the limit for liquids allowed. Liquid medications do not have to be placed in a clear plastic bag. Label all medications and supplies.
